Outdoor Program

For the past 16 years, the Outdoor Program (ODP) has been an important part of  building the community at CSU - Pueblo.   The activities offered through the program are open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university.   The Outdoor Program serves as a powerful group building experience that helps participants develop new friendships, learn lifelong wilderness skills, develop leadership, increase interpersonal skills and expand appreciation and concern for the environment.

Outdoor Program trips are lead by student leaders experienced in the outdoors and excited to be sharing their knowledge with you.

The Outdoor Program has something for everyone!  whether you want to camp for the first time, or you are an experienced backpacker looking for new friends, we have opportunities!

The OP teams with the Exercise Science, Health Promotion, and Recreation Department to offer you four different week-long Camping experiences.  Also, on each trip you can either go for fun or earn 2 college credits!

These four "Orientations” provide an opportunity to learn new things, meet new people and of course, have fun!

  • Mountain OrientationBackpack for a week in the high mountains of Colorado, learn basic backpacking skills, while camping in a beautiful place.

  • Winter OrientationCross country ski to a cabin high above Leadville Colorado, and spend 5 days skiing and learning.

  • Desert Orientation Backpack for 6 days in the deserts of the Southwestern United States.

  • Canyon Orientation Travel to the Canyon Country of Southern Utah and spend 7 days exploring some of the most amazing country on earth.

Our trips are funded by student fees, which you pay each semester. Therefore, the trips are often free or have a minimal cost. For example, a day of snowboarding (including transportation, lift ticket and lunch) for $35, a weekend of camping (including transportation, 2 meals a day and gear) for $15.
