Dear CSU-Pueblo Students, Staff, and Faculty,
As you know, Influenza H1N1,
also known as "Swine Flu" has been a hot health topic this week in the media.
It is important to remember that there is no cause for heightened concern on
campus, although it is important to employ the usual measures to prevent illness
during cold and flu season. By doing the following actions you can
drastically reduce your risk of illness: Avoid close contact with people
who appear unwell, have a fever, or cough. Wash your hands thoroughly with
soap and water often. Use antibacterial gel to clean hands when out and
about in the community. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth to prevent the
spread of germs. Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
(be sure to throw the soiled tissue away). Practice good health habits including
adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, drink water, and maintain adequate
physical activity.
If you develop flu-like
symptoms such as sudden onset of fever greater 100.0, cough, runny nose, stuffy
nose, muscle ache, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. You
should stay home and call your doctor for advice. There are medicines
available that can decrease the severity of symptoms and duration of the H1N1
virus.
