The Academic Advising Program is designed to
assist students who have yet to decide on a major.
Not only are students provided help with choosing courses to meet
graduation requirements, students are also provided
opportunities to explore majors and careers through a process of
research and self-discovery.
Students who need help choosing an appropriate
major will work with an academic advisor who will discuss
options that are available. Though undecided students may not
need to participate in all phases of our career exploration
program, the process of self-discovery begins with the aid and
feedback of self-assessment tools such as
SIGI 3 and/or the Strong Interest Inventory.
Students are also provided the use of a
variety of internet resource sites to help them explore possible
majors and careers that may be a good fit for them. The
Career Interest Game is one of the most helpful web-based
sites. Another is the
Occupation Outlook Handbook Online. This government
maintained website provides current and accurate information
about the job market so students are able to have a variety of
questions answered about careers they may be interested in. For
both of these sites, results from a Strong Interest Inventory
will be useful.
The Strong
Interest Inventory is now available online. If you have not
been provided with a password to take the Strong Interest
Inventory, please call SAS Academic Advising at (719)549-2581 to
speak with an advisor. Assessment results will be forwarded to
the SAS Academic Advising for interpretation.
Please call (719)549-2581 to schedule an appointment.
We are pleased to offer our services to help
students through the difficult task of declaring a major. We strive to help students choose a major that is a good fit based
upon the students' interests and values.
Current and prospective students are encouraged to contact
our office to meet with a professional academic/career advisor to
talk about our services. Please
contact our main office, located in the Psychology Building Suite
232, at (719) 549-2581 to speak with an advisor.
