Colorado State University - Pueblo hosts
Unstoppable Conference for students of color
PUEBLO
–Students of color from Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) will have an
opportunity to learn more about opportunities at Colorado State
University-Pueblo while enhancing their cultural awareness and feelings of
belonging as part of the Unstoppable conference July 28-29.
According to LaNeeca Williams, CSU-Pueblo director of affirmative action and
student conduct, the conference aims to introduce potential transfer
students from PPCC to career and personal growth options and leadership
possibilities. Student members of the Talented Tenth at CSU-Pueblo will host
the PPCC Students. The Talented Tenth is a CSU-Pueblo organization of
students of color who define themselves as 1) worthy of leadership; 2)
willing to be educated and professionally developed and; 3) socially
conscious of the problems that their brothers and sisters may endure. These
students consider themselves, “UNSTOPPABLE,” Williams said, and believed the
conference should reflect that theme.
CSU-Pueblo President Joe Garcia will present an inspirational session on
self motivation, while Omar Montgomery of the University of Colorado-Denver
will discuss personal responsibility. Additional sessions about time
management and making the most of your college experience will be
interspersed with physical and mental competitions like the climbing wall
and history challenge along with an etiquette luncheon and social gatherings
at night.
Williams views the conference as educational and experiential, allowing
participants to express themselves and share ideas while learning more about
CSU-Pueblo and their individual educational/career planning options.
