CSU- Pueblo and SCAHEC coordinate
Traumatic Brain Injury Conference
PUEBLO
–The Athletic Training Education Program at Colorado State
University-Pueblo and the Southeastern Colorado Area Health Education Center
have teamed up to offer a conference about traumatic brain injuries from 8
a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, July 25, in the Massari Arena at CSU-Pueblo. SCAHEC
is a nonprofit organization and is partially funded through the University
of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.
The conference, “Team up for Concussion Awareness,” will provide various
sessions and discussions throughout the day with speakers Dr. John Abbott,
director for the Emergency Department at Prowers Medical Center in Lamar;
Dr. James Kelly, faculty member of the Department of Neurosurgery at the
University of Colorado School of Medicine; Dr. Rocky Khosla, local Sports
Medicine and Family Practitioner, and director for the Sports Medicine Track
of the Southern Colorado Family Residency Program; Dr. Karen McAvoy,
licensed clinical psychologist specializing in pediatric psychology, and
coordinator for Mental Health Services for the Cherry Creek School District;
and Dr. Roger Clark, certified athletic trainer and director of the Athletic
Training Program at CSU-Pueblo.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn and understand more about
traumatic brain injury (TBI), the best practices for recognition and
treatment of TBI, and to identify back-to-play practices in order to prevent
further injury.
