Colorado State University - Pueblo unveils
new web site for prospective students
PUEBLO
–While the physical transformation of Colorado State University-Pueblo
is apparent to visitors on a daily basis, those surfing to campus on the
Internet might not have gotten the same impression. CSU-Pueblo unveiled a
new recruitment web site,
www.goCSUPueblo.com, this week to reflect the new image of the
University as a growing, dynamic, and vibrant academic community.
The University contracted last year with the Amelie Company out of Denver to
design a new admissions and recruitment site that will be the first stop for
prospective students as they begin their college exploration.
According to President Joseph Garcia, the goal was to create a recruitment
and customer-focused site that positions CSU-Pueblo as a “first choice”
institution with valuable academic offerings.
“Our plan was to provide prospective students with an opportunity to
“virtually” experience CSU-Pueblo and Colorado, and to make information easy
to find,” he said. “I believe the new web site does that not just by
drastically improving the visual content but by emphasizing our close
student/teacher interactions, our caring, open, and friendly campus
environment, and the many opportunities for student development both in and
out of the classroom.”
Garcia explained that Amelie Company was selected precisely because it did
not have significant experience within higher education clients, which the
University hoped would graphically set the institution apart from other
college web sites.
“We are a unique institution, and we wanted a unique website to help
highlight that fact,” Garcia said.
The project included creation of a new web site,
www.goCSUPueblo.com, and two layers
of design to transition to the current University web site,
www.colostate-pueblo.edu.
A 25-member campus committee conducted research on content and functionality
and critiqued the existing web site to provide a foundation of input for the
design company. The web steering committee was chaired by the Provost Russ
Meyer, and the subcommittees were comprised of many faculty, staff, and
students. Current and prospective students provided critical feedback
throughout the design process.
Garcia noted that the release of the new web site is but the first step in
enhancing
the University’s reputation. A series of recruitment publications this fall
will mirror the same creative approach to attracting and engaging additional
students. The Admissions Office already is seeing greater interest in the
University, which means the campus now is making preparations for one of the
largest freshmen classes in many years.
The University also hopes the new web site, publications, and increases in
electronic and print advertising will instill pride in among the
University’s alumni community with hopes of re-connecting with them.
The new recruitment web site is but the first of three phases. During the
2008-09 academic year, phase two of the project will encompass a new
navigation process and design for all university-level pages, followed by
phase three, which will redesign academic department sites.
Colorado State University - Pueblo is a regional, comprehensive university
emphasizing professional, career-oriented, and applied programs. Displaying
excellence in teaching, celebrating diversity, and engaging in service and
outreach, CSU-Pueblo is distinguished by access, opportunity, and the overall
quality of services provided to its students.
