welcomes community to Climbing Wall, Ropes Course
Pueblo- With the recent opening of
the newly renovated Massari Arena at Colorado State University-Pueblo, the
University’s Experiential Learning Center (ELC) has announced rates for the
use of the new rock climbing wall and team development opportunities for
community organizations.
Rock Climbing Wall
The Climbing Wall is open from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday nights this summer and
is free to CSU-pueblo students with ID, $3 per night for family of
CSU-Pueblo students, staff, faculty, and alumni, and $5 per night for
community members.
The climbing wall utilizes the Yosemite rating scale and provides climbs
ranging from 5.5 to 5.12 difficulty. The wall extends through two floors of
the newly renovated Massari Arena and is surrounded by plexiglass to allow
observation from both floors. Lights can be adjusted to focus on certain
areas.
Other wall features include:
* 6 separate climbing ropes * An aręte – point where two sides of the wall
come together to form a point Overhang * 3 Sport climbing routes *
Bouldering * Padded floor * Belay anchor points
According to ELC Director Scott Robertshaw, the Climbing Wall benefits
individuals and groups of all kinds who want to work together and learn a
variety of rock climbing skills. The rock climbing wall aims to promote
safety, teach skills, cooperation and group problem-solving skills, as well
as, develop individual self-confidence, leadership skills, teamwork, and
communication skills.
Group reservations may be obtained at the following prices: CSU-Pueblo
organizations ($50 per hours), School District or other Non-Profit Group
($75 per hour), Corporations ($100 per hour). Organizations may schedule the
wall for 1-8 hours. Your group, team, business or friends may want to learn
technical skills of rock climbing, self rescue or you may want to utilize
the climbing wall as a medium for personal or team development. The climbing
wall staff will custom design clinics, workshops and training session to
meet the needs of your group. This fee covers all personal gear (harness,
belay device, climbing shoes) and trained safety instruction with the skills
of belaying and climbing.
Challenge Course
The Challenge Course on the east side of campus benefits groups of all kinds
who want to work together toward a common goal. Each program -- High Rope
Elements, Low Rope Elements, or our Mobile Team Development -- is customized
to meet a group's specific needs and to address certain themes which they
deem important. The course promotes cooperation and group problem-solving
skills, and develops individual self-confidence, leadership skills,
teamwork, and communication skills through artificial stressors and
challenges in a controlled and safe environment.
Rates range from $100-600 for CSU-Pueblo organizations, $150-900 for
non-profit organizations, and $200-$1200 for corporations based on the type
of activities included and the number of participants. For groups who can’t
travel to CSU-Pueblo, portable activities are available which can be set up
at your facility.
