CSU – Pueblo Civil Engineering Technology

Pueblo- Secondary school students can
investigate the transportation industry as a possible career choice as part
of a two-week Summer Transportation Institute (STI) at Colorado State
University - Pueblo in June. CSU – Pueblo civil engineering technology
faculty will conduct the Institute June 9 to 20 for students in grades 8
through 11 attending public or private schools in Colorado during the
2007/2008 academic year. Interested students are encouraged to apply
immediately.
Space in the program is limited to approximately 20 students, who will
receive a full scholarship, covering tuition, laboratory use, project
supplies, field trips, and lunch during the two-week course being sponsored
by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and financed by the
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The program, which runs daily from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m., aims to increase awareness of, and stimulate interest in,
the transportation field by offering teens seminars, demonstrations, and
hands-on activities.
During the two-week period, student participants will be introduced to the
various modes of the transportation system and to the technical specialties
and functional areas of transportation professionals. Students will learn
about career opportunities in transportation and the relevant educational
and skill requirements. In addition, students will have the opportunity to
meet people who work in various areas of the transportation system in the
state of Colorado. Students will also participate in a variety of activities
including:
(a) Seminars and demonstrations,
(b) Projects or hands-on activities,
(c) Field trips, and
(d) Enhancement activities that are meant to broaden academic and technology
skills.

teacher or counselor at the student’s school, (b) a student’s statement
regarding his or her interest in the STI, and (c) a school transcript.
