Colorado State University - Pueblo and PCC
celebrate 75th with Community Celebration
Pueblo- On July 13, 1933, Southern
Colorado Junior College was granted a Certificate of Incorporation and
established as a duly organized corporation under the laws of the State of
Colorado. On July 13, 2008, Colorado State University-Pueblo and Pueblo
Community College will host a day-long celebration on the PCC campus to
commemorate the 75th anniversary of providing higher education to Southern
Colorado citizens.
The day will begin with a 7.5-kilometer run/2-mile walk that will start and
finish on the PCC campus and end with an evening performance by the Pueblo
Municipal Band at 5 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater. In between, both
indoor and outdoor activities will tempt children and adults of all ages
with historical and academic displays and tours, a car show, art show,
games, health fair, etc. The tentative schedule of events follows but is not
comprehensive.
Given the less than prime economic conditions of the era -- the Depression,
the 1929 Stock Market crash, the 1921 flood-- it truly is astounding to
witness the foresight and hope this community had in wanting to make a
better world for generations to come, said CSU-Pueblo President Joseph
Garcia. We want to provide a little something for everyone, so that every
age group can celebrate this momentous occasion.
Community organizations and individuals are invited to find out how they can
get involved in the day-long festivities by calling Julie DeHerrera at PCC,
(719) 549-3222, or Trisha Macias at CSU-Pueblo, (719) 549-2951.
