CSU-Pueblo, PCC sign student housing, employee tuition waiver agreements

Pueblo-  Colorado State University-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College have entered into two agreements that will encourage increased educational opportunities for area students. The new student housing agreement will allow a limited number of PCC students to live in CSU-Pueblo student housing, while employees of both institutions will be able to use their tuition waiver benefit to take courses at either school.

CSU-Pueblo President Joseph Garcia said the collaboration between the two schools not only will encourage the transfer of students from PCC to CSU-Pueblo to pursue four-year degrees, but it also will encourage staffs at both schools to examine the breadth of educational opportunities that exist between the two institutions.

“These agreements symbolize the historically strong connection we have had with PCC and the value of PCC transfer students to this institution,” Garcia said. “We hope these latest offerings will further enhance that connection.”

Employee Tuition Waiver
Employees of both CSU-Pueblo and PCC will be able to use their tuition waiver benefits to take courses at either school on a space available basis. Full-time employees currently are eligible to receive up to six semester hours of tuition credit between June through May of each year at their respective campuses. Beginning July 1, PCC’s employees will be eligible to receive up to six semester hours of tuition credit per fiscal year at CSU-Pueblo, and CSU-Pueblo employees will be eligible to do the same at PCC. Continuing and Professional Education (Extended Studies) and graduate courses are excluded.

Employees on a full-time appointment may receive the full benefit of six credit hours per year, while employees appointed between 50 percent to 99 percent of a full appointment will receive three credit hours per year. Temporary employees, hourly employees, teaching assistants, student employees, or honorarium faculty are not eligible for a faculty/staff waiver.

CSU-Pueblo employees taking courses offered by PCC and PCC employees taking courses offered by CSU-Pueblo must pay all fees charged by PCC and CSU-Pueblo that are charged to their own respective employees.

Student Housing Program
Beginning in the Fall 2008 semester, PCC students may contract to live in student housing facilities on the campus of and operated by CSU-Pueblo. CSU-Pueblo students will receive first priority should housing demand exceed available beds. PCC students will be wait-listed and assigned beds on a first-come, first-served basis after the first day of CSU-Pueblo classes.

For the summer semesters, priority will be given to PCC students registered for 6 or more credit hours up to May 15 of each year, or who are pre-registered for 9 or more credit hours for the Fall semester. After May 15, CSU-Pueblo and PCC will make a determination about accepting students with a lower amount of credit hours.

CSU – Pueblo and PCC agree that all PCC students living at CSU – Pueblo will abide by the CSU - Pueblo Student Code of Conduct and conduct process, the CSU – Pueblo Resident Handbook, and the PCC Student Code of Conduct. This information will be part of the standard contractual agreement between CSU - Pueblo and the student. CSU - Pueblo will assign all students based on their housing application preferences and requests. PCC students will be issued temporary identification to be able to access facilities. If the PCC student requests, access to student funded events and programs, the Student Recreation Center, and athletics events will be provided if the appropriate student fees are paid by the PCC Student.
