Colorado State University - Pueblo sponsors Puppy Love fundraiser and lecture

Pueblo-  The Office of Student Activities at Colorado State University-Pueblo will do its part to educate the public about the importance of vaccinations for PARVO and to raise money for the Animal Welfare & Protection Society as part of the Puppy Love fashion show this month.

The fundraiser and informative lecture will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom at a cost of $5 per person or free to students with college identification. The event seeks to raise money for Animal Welfare & Protection Society’s Buddy Foundation and to educate about the deadly disease of PARVO and the importance of vaccinations. Local veterinarian Dr. Keith Lorensen will provide an explanation of PARVO and the best practices known to avoid the deadly disease.

Additional donations will be accepted at boxes throughout the venue.

The fashion show will be led by Missy Champlain-Tyler of Misc Designs, whose puppy, Buddy, died from parvo. Because parvo is such a devastating disease, immediate vet care is required, creating the need for an emergency fund, thus, The Buddy Foundation. This will be a fund through animal welfare designated for emergency parvo care and parvo vaccinations.

In addition to the fashion show, additional information will be available on cosmetics, hair stylists, jewelry, body therapy, modeling, photography and of course, PARVO and the importance of vaccinations for your pets immediately, even when they are strays.

The show will feature Misc. Designs’ spring style on models from all over Colorado and neighboring states, who will be strutting their stuff to the music of Kic Time Entertainment - featuring a special live performance by Pueblo’s own Mark Bush. This is an all ages, all sizes event with hair and makeup provided exquisitely by Headlines Studio, as well as a live photo shoot experience by Jerry Martin. Additional photographers include Kristen Tyler and Kim Wiggins, model direction by Chazzy, and set props provided by Denver Domes. All sponsors, DJ’s, models, photographers, and stylists have graciously donated their time towards this cause .

Missy is a Pueblo native fashion artist, not easily described. Her style switches themes based on whether she’s providing interior design, upholstery, fabric art, or tailoring. This will be her 15th fashion show under the label Misc. Designs, with all shows done as a donation to the community. She’s best known for her intense gogo gear displayed through the electronica field since 1999, and this will be her first attempt at “sewing for a cause”. In addition to her fashion career, Missy is married with two boys and is a full-time student at Pueblo Community College.

A non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, Animal Welfare & Protection Society has been operating a private, ‘NO-Kill” dog shelter at 3420 W. 8th St., Pueblo since 1978. The shelter operates with a crew of volunteers through donations, grants, many fundraisers & adoption fees and receives no tax dollars or government funding.

The society takes in lost, abused and unwanted dogs, cares for them, provides necessary vet treatment, spays or neuters them, and finds good homes for them. The shelter is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. for adoptions.
