Colorado State University - Pueblo to host
author/educator Lloyd Lewan in March
Pueblo- Author, educator, public
speaker, and former chairman of the board of Lewan & Associates office
technology company Dr. Lloyd Lewan will visit the Colorado State
University-Pueblo campus for a variety of events and activities March 11-13
courtesy of the President’s Leadership Program.
Lewan is the third of four speakers in the PLP spring semester lecture
series. Currently in its seventh year, the PLP program is one of nine
schools to participate in the Colorado Leadership Alliance, a consortium of
comprehensive leadership education programs at undergraduate institutions
across Colorado. Through shared resources and collaborative efforts, CLA’s
focus is to develop the next generation of Colorado's leaders. PLP develops
and trains emerging leaders at CSU-Pueblo through a four – year academic
leadership program focused on academic and experiential learning. Scholars
are given opportunities to obtain leadership experience through mentoring,
internships, etiquette training, and presentations by leaders in various
fields from government and education to the service sectors.
Lewan is the 2007-2008 and first Leader-in-Residence for the President’s
Leadership Class at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Author of To
be a Leader: Leadership Beyond Management and Women in the Workplace: A
Man’s Perspective, Lewan is a frequent speaker and facilitator on
leadership issues, women’s economic development, international trade,
business and ethics, and workplace issues.
On March 11, Lewan will present “Leadership as Ethics: Leadership Beyond
Management”
to the faculty, staff, students, and community members at 5:15 p.m. on March
11 in the Hasan School of Business Auditorium. A reception will follow his
presentation. At 6:30 p.m., he will present “Dare to be a Leader” to the PLP
scholars in the HSB Auditorium and participate in the PLP Advisory Board
retreat on March 12.
Lewan’s academic work as chairman of the Board and Executive Dean Emeritus
for the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) has made him a popular
visitor on many campuses. ISE is the parent organization of the
international Semester at Sea program. His civic agenda includes work with
at-risk youth in the Denver area, specifically as chairman of the board of
Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives and volunteerism with Children’s Hospital.
He has traveled and spoken to numerous groups and organizations around the
world. Although Lewan & Associates is now wholly owned by Xerox Corporation,
he maintains an office at the company headquarters in Denver.

ABOUT LEWAN
Born in White Plains, N.Y. and raised in New Jersey, Lewan earned an
accounting degree from the University of Denver, a master’s degree at
Chapman College, and a doctoral degree in higher education from Oklahoma
State University. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. In
addition to work in teaching and mentorship, Lewan served as Chairman of the
Board for Lewan & Associates, a regional firm operated by his brother, Paul
Lewan. He spent nearly 20 years as chief academic officer for Semester at
Sea and made many international voyages with faculty and students for the
SAS program.
