CSU – Pueblo to Host Pike Curriculum
Guide Workshop Pueblo- The HARP Foundation, the Southeastern Colorado American History Project (SECAHP), and Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Teacher Education Program are presenting a free Zebulon M. Pike Curriculum Guide Workshop from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2. The workshop will be at CSU-Pueblo and at Pike Plaza on the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo (HARP). Curriculum Guide Workshop 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007 Colorado State University-Pueblo & Pike Plaza on the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo Featured Keynote Speaker Clive Seigle, Ph.D. Expert on Early Western History Guest Luncheon Speaker John Luzader Living History of the West Elementary, middle, and high school teachers of all disciplines are invited to participate in this one-day workshop, which will introduce a locally created multi-disciplinary Curriculum Guide focusing on the early 19th century Western history, with a specific emphasis on the Zebulon M. Pike expedition. Break-out sessions and hands-on practicums will be offered in history, science, and reading-literacy. A special session will be held for science teachers in the laboratory rooms at Pike Plaza. Professional development credit of .5 hour can be earned through Pueblo District 70 or one full hour of graduate credit can be earned FREE through CSU-Pueblo Continuing Education (requires supplemental assignment) for regional K-12 teachers who complete the workshop. The workshop begins at 8 a.m. on Oct. 2 with coffee at CSU-Pueblo’s Occhiato University Center Chameleon-Great Plains Room. The program begins at 8:20 a.m. with Dr. Clive Seigle’s keynote address, followed by break-out sessions on campus. The workshop moves downtown for a catered lunch and luncheon speaker John Luzader at the Olde Towne Carriage House, followed by afternoon sessions at the HARP’s Pike Plaza.
