CSU-Pueblo Student Music Groups to conduct
concert tour of area schools in November
Pueblo- The music department at Colorado State University – Pueblo will
spend the next two days in a whirlwind tour of performances at area high
schools with hopes of promoting the university, strengthening ties with the
schools, and improving relations with the community.
The idea was birthed by Mike De Luca, District 60 music educator and Fine
Arts Supervisor for more than 30 years, who now is working half-time for the
Music Department. He has taken an interest in increasing the effectiveness
of the University’s outreach, not only to benefit the Department, but to
assist in reaching university-wide enrollment goals.
De Luca has been meeting regularly with the ensemble directors of our
department to formulate an outreach plan. The result is a two-day tour of
performances, Nov. 14-15, during which a representation of student
ensembles/combos (jazz, brass, woodwind, vocal, guitar, piano, string,
percussion) along with their faculty directors will perform a concert in
every high school in Pueblo County.
“As you might expect, there is a strong positive correlation between actual
on-site visits to schools by university students and faculty and increased
enrollment,” De Luca said.
The target audience will be primarily music students, students in the arts,
and junior/senior college-bound students, but the University groups aim for
an audience of about 1,400 students over the two days, and significantly
more if non-arts students are included.
These CSU-Pueblo musical groups will perform at the following locations:
Jazz Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Brass
Ensemble, String Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Percussion Ensemble
