Colorado State University – Pueblo
welcomes higher education author next week
Pueblo- A top-selling author on higher education issues will visit
Colorado State University – Pueblo next week and provide insights into
teaching and learning at a two-day seminar on what makes the best college
educators.
Dr. Kenneth R. Bain, award winning author of What the Best College Teachers
Do, will visit with select groups of faculty on September 21 and 22 to
discuss teaching development. Bain also will conduct a presentation open to
faculty at CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College at
1 p.m. on Thursday, September 21 in the Occhiato University Center West
Ballroom. A campus-wide reception will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the OUC Aspen
Leaf.
Bain’s book won the 2004 Virginia and Warren Stone Prize for Outstanding
Book on Education and Society and has been one of the top selling books on
higher education. He has been recognized throughout the United States and
internationally for his insights into teaching and learning and for his
15-year study of what the best educators do. He has presented workshops and
lectures at nearly 200 universities, which has taken him to Africa, Asia,
Australia, Canada, Europe, and Mexico. In recent years, his book has been
adopted by universities and colleges around the world and has been
translated into six languages.
In his 30+ year college teaching experience, he has won four major teaching
awards, including a nomination for the Minnie Piper Foundation Award for
outstanding college teacher in Texas in 1980 and 1981, and Honors Professor
of the Year Awards in 1985 and 1986. A 1990 national publication named him
one of the best teachers in the United States. Bain also has received awards
from the Harry S Truman Library, Lyndon Baines Johnson Library, the Ford
Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the International
Studies Association. He is currently completing his third book on U.S.
relations with the Middle East (The Last Journey Home: Franklin Roosevelt
and the Middle East).
Bain serves as Vice Provost for Instruction, Director of the Teaching and
Learning Resource Center, and Professor of History at Montclair State
University in New Jersey. He earned a B.A. in history and philosophy from
Baylor University, an M.A. in history from the University of North Texas,
and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Texas at Austin.
