Colorado State University – Pueblo seeks
public comment as part of accreditation visit
Pueblo- Colorado State University-Pueblo seeks public comment on the
quality of the institution and its academic programs as part of a
comprehensive evaluation visit February 26-28, 2007, by a team representing
The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges
and Schools.
The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the
United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis.
The university has been accredited by the Commission since 1963. The
university’s current accreditation is at the master’s degree level and
includes degree sites on the main campus in Pueblo and at a satellite
location in Colorado Springs. Institutional accreditation evaluates an
entire institution and accredits it as a whole. Other agencies provide
accreditation for specific programs. The Commission accredits approximately
1,100 institutions of higher education in a 19-state region. The Commission
is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
For the past year and a half, CSU-Pueblo has been engaged in a process of
self-study, addressing the Commission’s requirements and criteria for
accreditation. The result of that process is a detailed report, Building
Excellence, which, along with an executive summary, is available on line at
www.colostate-pueblo.edu/hlca. The evaluation team will visit the
institution to gather evidence that the self-study report is thorough and
accurate. The team then will recommend to the Commission a continuing status
for the university and any steps needed for full compliance. Following a
review process, the Commission itself will take the final action.
The public is invited to submit comments regarding the university by writing
to:
