Colorado State University – Pueblo student groups sponsor 1940s USO Style Dance

Pueblo-
Music from the 1940s Big Band era will resound from the Occhiato University Center on the Colorado State University – Pueblo campus as the Veterans Fraternity (Beta Sigma Iota Alpha) joins forces with numerous student organizations to coordinate a free1940s Style USO Dance to honor veterans and those currently serving our country. The free dance will be held from 7-11 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13 in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom.
The event is made possible by funding from the Associated Students’ Government and Student Activities Board.

Beta Sigma Iota Alpha President Brandon Schoch said the fraternity wanted to draw attention to Veterans Day and to those who serve our country in a positive way, with an event that would truly bring together the campus and the community.

“Rather than another traditional Veterans Day ceremony, we thought this USO-style event would bring awareness of what servicemen and women have accomplished through the decades, while providing an evening of entertainment,” Schoch said.

The ballroom will be hopping with the Big Band/Swing sounds of the Dwight Shaw Septet, an eight-piece ensemble. Student health club Tackling Life’s Choices will serve as bartenders for the non-alcoholic “mocktails,” while cuisine will be reminiscent of 40s fare. The CSU-Pueblo Cheerleaders and Dance team will serve as dance and candy girls for the event, and the Political Science Club will coordinate a presentation honoring area veterans.

To provide the appropriate atmosphere, the CSU-Pueblo Art Club will paint murals, the Pueblo Historic Air Society will provide displays, and the Automotive Industry Management Club will go in search of military vehicles for display. The Past Masters History Club will research and gather appropriate costumes from the era.

Each attendee will receive a free 5X7 photograph remember their experience.
