Colorado State University – Pueblo sponsors Young Women’s Real World Conference

Pueblo-
College is but one of the personal and professional options that high school women should consider as they think about their post-secondary alternatives and plan the next chapters of their lives. The third annual Young Women’s Real World Conference, scheduled at Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Occhiato Student Center on Wednesday, Nov. 8, will address the many educational needs and alternatives available to female teens.
The daylong workshop opens with registration and breakfast at 8 a.m. and wraps up at 3 p.m. Campus radio personalities from student-operated radio station Rev 89.5 will be on hand to greet students.
Again this year, the Women’s Studies Program, supported by an energetic team of community volunteers, has planned a full day of activities, speakers, and conversation around the question of “What next?” for high school women.
Dr. Carol Loats, CSU-Pueblo Women’s Studies Program director, initiated the outreach event in 2004 to encourage support for high school girls who may not have considered community college or university plans as a life alternative.
Co-sponsored by the Provost’s Office at CSU-Pueblo, community organizations including the Pueblo District Attorney’s Office, Pueblo Workforce Center, and Pueblo City-County Health Department have been active in the planning and development.
“I am very excited about the time, energy and involvement of our community partners this year. They have really done the lion’s share of the planning for this year’s conference,” said Loats.
