Colorado State University – Pueblo
sponsors Writing Marathon with All-Pueblo Reads
Pueblo- The Southern Colorado Writing Project at Colorado State
University – Pueblo and
the Pueblo City-County Library District will co-sponsor a Writing Marathon
in conjunction with All-Pueblo Reads 2006 from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 21,
beginning at the Ryals Room of the Rawlings Public Library, 100 E. Abriendo
Ave.
Parents, guardians, and teachers and writers of all ages are invited to this
celebration of writing, our community, friends, and family, which aims to
encourage, promote, and engage individuals in the act of writing. All minors
(17 years old or younger) must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the
duration of the event. Southern Colorado Writing Project Director Katherine
Frank said the fall writing marathon typically is limited to adults, but
because of the All-Pueblo Reads, it has been opened up to writers of all
ages. The opening writing exercise also will tie directly to the themes that
emerge from this year’s All Pueblo Reads book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
Writers will be given a list of participating businesses and suggestions for
outdoor writing spots. Much of the afternoon will be spent exploring these
locations, writing about them and the overall experience, and sharing
writing with others.
Groups will write about the places they visit, about the people they meet
and observe along the way, and about writing and their writing partners.
Most importantly, the groups will write whatever they are moved to write. At
the end of the event, participants will gather and share their work in a
read-around.
All participants will be given the opportunity to submit their writing for
publication in the Spring/Fall 2006 Writing Marathon Anthology, More Voices
from Union Avenue.
