CSU–Pueblo celebrates July 4th with Spirit of Liberty concert
Pueblo- Colorado State University – Pueblo will celebrate this nation’s
independence next Tuesday with a concert by the United States Air Force
Academy Concert Band and Sertoma fireworks.
Food and beverage vendors will open at 5 p.m. to welcome those interested in
getting the best seats to the July 4th Extravaganza, featuring a “Spirit of
Liberty” concert by the USAF Academy Concert Band and an hour-long fireworks
presentation by the Sertoma Club. More than 17,000 people attended last
year’s Independence Day activities, and it remains the only fireworks show
in town on this national holiday.
The concert will be preceded by a color guard by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s
Office at approximately 7:15 p.m. with the fireworks scheduled to begin at
9:15 p.m.
A $5 per vehicle parking fee will be collected and distributed back into the
community through Sertoma charities.
The USAF Concert Band is a 47-member ensemble consisting of full-time
professional musicians and is one of 10 performing groups that comprise the
entire 76-member USAF Academy Band, which reflects the institution’s
standards of excellence and supports troop morale, recruiting, and community
relations through nearly 600 public concerts, civic and military functions
across the country. Under the leadership of Commander/Conductor Lieutenant
Colonel Steven Grimo, the concert band performs a variety of musical styles
and traditional American classics, vocal selections, and patriotic songs.
