CSU – Pueblo to host Southern Colorado Writing Project Visitors Day
Pueblo- An introduction to the Southern Colorado Writing Project (SCWP)
and the contributions it makes to improving education will be part of a
Visitor’s Day at Colorado State University – Pueblo this Thursday.
Visitors also will have the opportunity to share the accomplishments and
hard work of SCWP Institute Fellows from 2-4 p.m. Thursday (June 29) in the
main foyer of the Life Sciences Building on the CSU-Pueblo campus. The SCWP
is based on the National Writing Project model which provides opportunities
for teachers from different disciplines at the K – 16 level to share their
expertise, develop personal writing skills, study current writing research
and to prepare workshops on writing instruction for presentation to
colleagues at their home institutions and elsewhere.
Thursday’s events will begin with a poster session and refreshments in the
main foyer followed by two concurrent 30-minute breakout sessions conducted
by 2006 SCWP Summer Institute Fellows. Two SCWP fellows will conduct
30-minute versions of their 90-minute demonstrations that have been
developed for SCWP inservice sessions. This year’s presenters are Michelle
Gray, a South High School mathematics teacher, who will address the
importance of using writing in the mathematics classroom. Nancy Oswald, a
fifth grade teacher from Cotopaxi K-12 Consolidated School, will discuss
coaching students through the revision process.
