CSU–Pueblo offers Summer Business Academy
to incoming high school freshman
Pueblo- Area eighth grade graduates will have the opportunity to try
their hand at creating their own businesses, tour area businesses, and get a
taste of college life at a three-day Summer Business Academy June 11-14,
co-sponsored by the Hasan School of Business at Colorado State University –
Pueblo and MASS Gear-Up. There is no cost to participants. Interested students should call MASS Gear-Up at 719-549-2291 to register. The
deadline is Thursday, June 8.
The Summer Business Academy is a three-day, residential camp for eighth
graders who will be freshmen in the fall. They will learn more about their personality types through
the Myer-Briggs test; build their own business and compete against other
teams to see how their team’s business stacks up; visit local businesses,
such as Texas Roadhouse and Atlas Pacific; and experience college residence
halls and cafeteria food, all while making new friends. All sessions will be
held on the CSU-Pueblo campus with the exception of the business tours and
barbeque at Rock Canyon.
The academy begins on Sunday, June 11 with registration, dinner, and the
formation of business teams. Monday will provide an overview of business
basics, including personality testing, challenge course, and a business
Olympics. Tuesday’s agenda focuses on the real world of business and
includes sessions on the truths and myths of college, business tours, and
additional work on the venture team competition. Wednesday’s session will
bring out the entrepreneur in all participants with the final venture team
competition presentations and closing ceremonies.
