CSU–Pueblo sponsors community writing marathon for families

Pueblo-
The Southern Colorado Writing Project at Colorado State University – Pueblo and The Pueblo City-County Library District are co-sponsoring the first Pueblo Community Writing Marathon for writers of all ages from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

Parents, guardians, and teachers are encouraged to urge their children and students to come and enjoy a celebration of writing, community, friends, and family. Participants will walk, talk, and write at the library and at various community locations for an afternoon of non-stop writing and personal enrichment with a community of writers. All minors (17 years old or younger) must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the entire event.

According to Southern Colorado Writing Project Director Dr. Katherine Frank, the event goal is to encourage, promote, and engage writers of all ages. This event is a follow up to the inaugural Writing Marathon held last October during which 50+ adult community members gathered for a similar afternoon of creativity and fellowship.

The event will begin at the InfoZone News Museum located on the 4th floor of the Robert Hoag Rawlings Public Library, 100 E. Abriendo Avenue. At the end of the day, writers gather together at the InfoZone News Museum to share and celebrate their work. The read-around nurtures the sense of a community of writers. A separate “adults-only” strand also will be available for participants 18 years old and over who prefer to write with a group of their peers. This group will begin with all participants in the InfoZone News Museum but will be given the option to pursue a different writing route and will reconvene in a separate location for its final read-around.

All participants will be given the opportunity to submit their writing for publication in the Spring
2006 Writing Marathon Anthology, More Voices from Union Avenue.

Participants must confirm a place by April 21 by contacting Dr. Frank at (719) 549-2236 or katherine.frank@colostate-pueblo.edu
