CSU–Pueblo sponsors Great
American Smokeout next Thursday
Pueblo –Students at Colorado State University – Pueblo will be
encouraged to feel the freedom of being tobacco free or help someone else
escape the addictive stronghold as part of the Great American Smokeout on
Thursday, November 17.
On Thursday, members of TLC (Tackling Life’s Choices) and CSU-Pueblo’s EXHP
485 Health Promotion class will provide a variety of resources from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. at the entrance of the Occhiato University Center. This day may
mark history for people wanting a healthier lifestyle, according to Carol
Foust, chair of the exercise science, health promotion, and recreation. All
activities will promote instructions on walking away from tobacco and
running to a healthy lifestyle and, ultimately, reminding students and their
peers that life without tobacco is a healthy choice. The public is welcome
to pick up educational materials, win prizes, obtain free quit kits, or sign
up for a smoking cessation class.
Foust said that nation historically has come together on this day to make
new decisions about living smoke free.
“The Great American Smokeout is an-annual event held to remind smokers and
non-smokers about the effective strategies for quitting smoking and reasons
to not start smoking,” Foust said. “Our desire is to provide education and
tools that will motivate individuals to start a plan with the resources
available to them, both on and off campus.”
For additional information about educational needs for living a tobacco free
life, contact Foust at 549-2337.
