CSU– Pueblo Celebrates Dia de
los Muertos with multiple events
Pueblo –Staff, faculty, students, and community members are invited
to celebrate the Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, on the campus of
Colorado State University-Pueblo next week. The Day of the Dead festivities
will be held the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, November 2. The events
are sponsored by the Office of Student Activities, MEChA, Catholic Student
Union, Multicultural Center, M.A.E.S., and the Chicano Studies Department.
The first session begins at noon in the Occhiato University Center Great
Hall with a reception featuring pan de muertos (bread of the dead), a
traditional cake, served with coffee, tea and other snacks. Juan Espinosa of
the Pueblo Chieftain will discuss the history of the Day of the Dead
following the reception.
Evening events begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception in the Occhiato
University Center Great Hall. Children will be able to help open a piņata
during the reception. Attendees also will vote on altars that have been
created by campus clubs and organizations to honor the dead. At 6 p.m.,
Bailadores de Valle, a local dance troupe, will perform traditional dances
followed by a prayer vigil led by CSU-Pueblo’s Catholic Student Union. The
festivities will move into the Ballroom where comedian Chris Fonseca will
perform at 7 p.m.
