CSU – Artist Michael Meyers appearing at University Art Gallery r
Pueblo – Where would one find sculpture, theatre, and drawing all in
one place? The answer is at Colorado State University – Pueblo’s Fine Art
Gallery, which features the work of artist Michael Meyers through October
14.
According to Meyers, the collection, named Dear Outpost, “suggests an
attempt to connect and communicate with the remote or isolated. In this
project the reference may be metaphorical, suggesting an individual’s
position of surveillance and questioning at the edge of a natural, cultural,
or spiritual frontier.”
He uses everyday items such as beads and thread to create unique pieces of
art. Before his work is showcased, he often tours the gallery and uses its
distinctive attributes to give his project a direction.
Visitors themselves become a part of the exhibit through active observation.
Meyers believes that “by navigating the space and exploring a range of
perspectives, the viewer can discover interrelated elements of scale, light,
symmetry, and sound.”
For those who would like to better understand the meaning and purpose of
Meyers’ art, the Fine Art Gallery will host a reception with the artist from
6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday (Oct. 8). However, the displays will remain in the
Gallery until October 14. Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 4
p.m.
