Colorado State University – Pueblo to host Hurricane Katrina Relief Drive Sept. 19

Pueblo- Colorado State University – Pueblo will host a day-long drop off and fundraising Hurricane Relief Drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina on Monday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored in part by First News 5/30 along with other community businesses who have offered their goods and services in support of the effort. Care and Share and Two Men and a Truck have donated vehicles and drivers to transport the donated items to Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora, which is expected to house more than 1,000 evacuees of the Gulf Coast tragedy. In addition, Signs by Scott, SignARama, Rev89, ClearChannel radio, Hobby Lobby, and A-I Barricade and Sign already have committed to the drive effort operations. Items will be sorted in the Occhiato University Center for distribution either to the Air Force Base or to areas directly affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has left hundreds of thousands of people homeless, with the number of deaths as yet undetermined. Reports from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities indicate that more than 30 colleges and universities in the Gulf Coast region have been severely damaged by the hurricane, and that up to 100,000 students have been displaced.
On Sept. 19, anyone wishing to donate items (see list at end of release) are asked to drop off the items in the parking lot west of campus near the Hasan Amphitheatre or at any of the booths that will be located throughout campus. Campus clubs and organizations will set up a variety of fundraising booths to collect money for the Red Cross, who also will have representatives in attendance.
Campus employees or students wishing to volunteer for a one-hour shift on

To volunteer, contact Trisha Esquibel, Executive Assistant to the President, at 549-2951 or trisha.esquibel@colostate-pueblo.edu. Student clubs and organizations or individual students interested in setting up fundraising booths should contact student Stacy Schoch at 369-3572 or se.schoch@colostate-pueblo.edu
