Colorado State University – Pueblo announces Future Teacher Academy participants

Pueblo- The national teacher shortage has impacted schools across the state of Colorado. Our children deserve only the best—competent, caring, and enthusiastic teachers in their classrooms. In an initiative to recruit extremely talented youth into the profession of teaching,
Colorado State University – Pueblo, lead organization in the Southern Colorado Teacher Education Alliance, will host the Summer Academy for Future Teachers, July 11-15. In its sixth year, the Academy attracts 30 of the best and brightest high school juniors and seniors from across Colorado to learn more about teaching and develop their potential as outstanding educators.
Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to interact with award-winning educators from around the state, including Marge West, former Colorado Teacher of the Year, National Teacher of the Year Finalist, and 1995 National Teachers Hall of Fame Inductee. Students will also design a lesson and teach in a high-needs local summer school program, develop collaborative leadership skills, create an educational project utilizing state of the art technology, and receive career and college advising.

The 30 participants selected for this year’s Academy are listed below.
