annual scholarships to four students
Pueblo- Four Colorado State University - Pueblo students were selected
to receive $1,000 Alumni Association scholarships for 2005-06. The students
were selected from a pool of more than 155 applicants.
The recipients were Katrina James of Karval, a nursing major; David Grossman
of Pueblo, a business management major; George Kruest of Pueblo, a business
major; and Karen Olson of Pueblo, a history and secondary education major.
The scholarships are granted in recognition of academic achievement and
financial need to relatives of CSU-Pueblo alumni. All four recipients are
continuing students.
Katrina James is a rancher’s daughter with a 3.8 GPA. She is involved with
the campus Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program. Both of
James’ siblings, Andy (‘00) and Natalie (’05), are CSU-Pueblo alumni.
Expecting to graduate in May 2006, David Grossman carries a 3.9 GPA, with
intention to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
Grossman is involved with his church and the Pueblo Youth Project, as well
as the Campus Crusade for Christ. Having lived in Latin America for 11
years, he teaches Spanish to local high school students. His sister, Marla
Grossman, graduated summa cum laude in 2004.
George Kruest plans to obtain his MBA before becoming an attorney
specializing in business and real estate law. He is active in his church and
CSU-Pueblo’s business club, Students in Free Enterprise. No stranger to
enterprise, Kruest has managed two local businesses, and co-owned and
operated a small construction/drywall company. Having made the National
Dean’s List, Kruest maintains a 3.8 GPA. His father George (‘83), and
mother, Patricia (‘82), are both alums of CSU-Pueblo.
As a nontraditional student, wife, and mother of three teens, Karen Olson is
following her dream of becoming a teacher after years of working in the
business and health sectors. Her love of Colorado history led her to
volunteer as a docent at the Rosemount Museum. Olson’s parents, Ivan (‘67)
and Arlene (‘66) Davison, are both CSU-Pueblo grads.
