2004 Colorado Teacher of the Year to present Commencement Address at CSU-Pueblo

Pueblo-
The 2004 Colorado Teacher of the Year will present the Commencement Address to nearly 600 students during spring Colorado State University – Pueblo Commencement ceremonies beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday (May 7) at the Colorado State Fair Events Center.
Henry McIntosh, a language arts teacher at John Mall High School in Walsenburg and 1966 alumnus of the University, was named the Colorado Department of Education’s teacher of the Year for 2004. He was named the 2004 Distinguished Alumnus by CSU-Pueblo’s Alumni Association during Homecoming ceremonies last fall.

On Saturday, guests at commencement ceremonies may arrive after 8 a.m. in order to secure seating, which is on a first-come, first-served basis. Following the commencement ceremony, the CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association will sponsor a reception for graduates and their guests in the Palace of Agriculture.

For complete commencement information, contact the Office of External Affairs at 719-549-2810 or visit www.colostate-pueblo.edu/commencement.

A Pueblo native who graduated from Centennial High School, McIntosh went to John Mall three years ago after 20 years in a Colorado Springs-area school district. He inherited his love of teaching from his mother, who began her career in a one-room school house in the coal camps of Southern Colorado.

After graduating from Southern Colorado State College in 1966 with a B.A. degree in speech, English and history, he earned an M.S. in Speech from Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kan. In addition to his exemplary teaching credentials, which have contributed to increased CSAP scores and helping encourage college attendance, he has demonstrated expertise as a Public Affairs Officer for 10 years with the U.S. Naval Reserve and has a finance background with a degree from the School of Mortgage Banking.

McIntosh’s volunteer work and professional involvement has been extensive and includes medals in Tae Kwondo, a cycling championship, and a Softball Coach of the Year award as well as membership in professional organizations such as the Speech Association of America, U.S. Cycling Federation, and the Colorado High School Coaches Association.

The Colorado Department of Education cited McIntosh for many contributions to the school – from establishing Advanced Placement classes to taking students on a tour of Great Britain to launching a girls fast-pitch softball team.
