Men's Basketball Names New Head Coach

Pueblo-
Pat Eberhart, current assistant coach at Colorado State, has been named the fifth head coach in the history of Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball, Director of Athletics Joe Folda announced today. The announcement comes after a one-month national search that considered many of the top candidates from the Rocky Mountain region.

The appointment serves as a homecoming of sorts for Eberhart, who was an assistant coach for the then-University of Southern Colorado. Working under Coach Folda, Eberhart saw his teams go 60-25 from 1997-2001. He also was part of the 1998 team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Basketball North Central Regional, the most recent appearance in school history.

“I am excited to have Pat Eberhart come back to Pueblo as our head men's basketball at Colorado State University- Pueblo,” said Folda. “ When he left four years ago he mentioned that he would love to come back here to be the head coach some day. Pat will bring great enthusiasm and excellent experience to the basketball program. He will do things the right way and is a great fit for our program, university, and the community of Pueblo.”

Eberhart has served as an assistant coach at Colorado State University since 2001. As the Recruiting Coordinator for the Rams, he was an integral part of landing a 2004 recruiting class tabbed 26th in the nation by Hoop Scoop magazine. One of his most noteworthy signees, the Rams' Jason Smilth, was named the 2004 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year.

Prior to his first stint in Pueblo, Eberhart was an assistant coach at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo., from 1995-97. In all, he has nearly 10 years of experience in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. That familiarity, plus his development as one of the top recruiters in the region, will help smooth the transition with a team that will lose its top three scorers from this year to graduation.

Eberhart also brings coaching experience from stints at Denver’s Machebeuf Catholic High School, Denver East High School and Adams State College.

Eberhart received his bachelor's degree in business administration and education from Adams State, where he was a stand-out guard for the Grizzlies. A two-time All-RMAC honoree, he still holds the Adams State record for made three-pointers in a game. He also holds a master's degree in education curriculum instruction and design from Colorado Christian University.

Eberhart and his wife, Teresa, have a daughter, Emma. The family currently resides in Fort Collins.
