Announces ‘Gateway to Space’ course
Pueblo- College and high school students interested in space and who
would like to participate in a balloon project, are encouraged to sign up
for a course at CSU-Pueblo that will be offered during the spring semester
2005. The course, called “Gateway to Space,” is intended for students of all
levels and majors with an interest in rocketry and space exploration. The
course will include lectures given by industry experts from many Colorado
companies. The lectures will cover a broad range of topics including the
history of rocketry, rocket propulsion systems, spacecraft design, satellite
orbits, and space exploration.
The class, which is part of the spring 2005 semester at CSU-Pueblo, will
meet from 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, and from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays. The
spring semester begins on Monday, January 17.
During the semester, teams of students will design their own payloads
consisting of a camera and heating system as well as a science experiment of
the students’ choosing. The project will need student participation from a
variety of skill and talent areas including technical writers, graphic web
designers, engineers, scientists, and project managers. The payloads built
by Pueblo students will be launched together with payloads created by
students from three other Colorado colleges on high altitude balloons to an
altitude of 100,000 feet on Saturday, April 16, 2005.
