Scott Shrode named Executive Director of
Colorado State University – Pueblo Foundation
Pueblo- A trust administrator, attorney, and former vice president of
development at the University of Evansville in Indiana has been hired to
lead the fundraising efforts at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Selected
from a national pool of candidates, Indiana native W. Scott Shrode will
begin duties as Executive Director of the CSU-Pueblo Foundation on Dec. 8.
As Executive Director, Shrode will provide advice, counsel, and coordination
for the CSU-Pueblo Foundation, a non-profit independent fundraising
organization with assets of more than $18 million, and its Board of
Directors, committees, and affiliated organizations. He will oversee the
Foundation’s three-person staff, serve as liaison to the CSU-Pueblo
Foundation Board of Trustees, and coordinate the University’s development
plans, including annual, planned, and major gift programs as well as
specialized promotional campaigns.
Several factors drove Shrode to accept the CSU-Pueblo post.
"It was President Applbaum's vision and the many accomplishments of the
faculty that first drew my attention to CSU-Pueblo. But what really made me
decide to leave my hometown and family and move to Pueblo was that
combination coupled with the dedication and friendliness of each person that
I met during the interview process,” Shrode said. “The university is a
student centered one, and I look forward to helping more young men and women
take advantage of a CSU-Pueblo education through our development efforts."
Currently, Shrode is a trust administrator with Old National Trust Company,
where he manages accounts totaling $500,000 or more, including charitable
remainder trusts, endowments, personal portfolios, profit sharing plans, and
pension plans. From 1993 to 2002, he was Vice President for Development at
his alma mater, the University of Evansville, where he supervised major
gifts, planned giving, annual giving, and alumni and communications
operations. During his tenure there, Shrode helped plan, implement, and
complete a $60 million, Widening the Circle capital campaign from 1997 to
2002, which was accomplished two years ahead of schedule.
He also planned and supervised a two-year, $2 million campaign for Harlaxton
College, the University’s British campus; developed and successfully
implemented a plan to increase annual giving by 76 percent over a four-year
period; supervised a five-fold increase in alumni events and alumni
attendance, and cultivated and solicited several of the largest lifetime
gifts to the University.
Shrode earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Evansville
and a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
Among his volunteer activities, Shrode has served on the University of
Evansville Board of Trustees and Alumni Association as well as boards of the
Evansville Bar Association, the Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce,
the YMCA, the Evansville Zoological Society, and Deaconess Hospital
Foundation. He has coached youth baseball and basketball and was an active
member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Shrode and his wife, Susan, have two grown children.
