Colorado State University – Pueblo announces 2004 Daniels Fund Scholarship Awardees

Pueblo-
Colorado State University - Pueblo has awarded 10 scholarships for the 2004-2005 academic year to transfer students through a $150,000 Daniels Opportunity Award from the Denver-based Daniels Fund. Each scholarship was awarded in the amount of $4,000 per year to help cover the costs of pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Each scholarship recipient met all of the criteria, which consisted of at least 30 transferable credit hours; a transfer grade point average between 2.5 and 3.69; a resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming or Utah; and eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The recipients also successfully completed the application process, which included a response to three essay questions, unofficial copies of all college academic transcripts, and one letter of recommendation. Each successful applicant interviewed with a selection committee which then determined the 10 scholarship recipients.

The recipients, their hometowns, and the colleges from which they transferred are:

  • Elizabeth Easton, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Teesha Francis, Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College
  • Valentina Gonzales, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Clyde Hazelton, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Dixie Herring, Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Community College
  • Danella Lucero, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Karen Morgenthaler, Canon City, Pueblo Community College
  • Sally Owens, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Angela Patterson, Pueblo, Pueblo Community College
  • Christal Rosenberg, Denver, Metropolitan State College
In establishing the Daniels Opportunity Awards, its founder Bill Daniels wanted to financially support individuals overlooked by other scholarship programs who had potential to complete a college education if given the chance and the necessary resources.
