Colorado State University – Pueblo Announces Homecoming 2004 Activities

Pueblo-
Homecoming week (Oct. 18-24) at Colorado State University-Pueblo will include everything from Fear Factor Friday and a musical theatre showcase to a reunion of the Class of 1954 and recognition of five distinguished alumni.

Homecoming week kicks off on Monday with a reception for internationally known poet Dr. Bernice Zamora sponsored by the Chicano Studies program and the University Library. The reception will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18 on the third floor of the University Library. The event is open to the public at no charge.

Students will aim to fire up the campus with a Spirit Rally and Bonfire beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, when alumni are invited to join CSU-Pueblo students and staff for food and music in the soccer field parking lot east of campus.

Activities multiply on Friday, which has been declared Spirit Day on campus! All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear ThunderWolf or red/blue school colors. From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., it’s Back to College - a perfect opportunity for all former students to step back in time and visit with fellow alumni and current faculty. Campus tours and open classes will be available to all alumni who wish to visit their alma mater.

The Student Alumni Association (SAA) will host its first event as a chartered club – Fear Factor Friday! Registration for up to 20 teams, each with two team members, is currently underway. The event will consist of three timed stunts, with teams vying for new mountain bikes. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., teams will meet at the CSU-Pueblo Ropes Course for a trial run and safety briefing before harnessing up and testing their skills and fear of heights. The top 10 teams will advance to Stunt #2 near the soccer field during halftime of the ThunderWolf soccer game against Regis University, which will be free to all fans. Team members will test their intestinal fortitude with the transfer of mealworms from one contestant and container to another. The fastest five teams will then move inside Massari Arena for The Houdini Escape. A four-foot by seven-foot pine box full of spaghetti and limburger cheese awaits the final survivors, who must find keys to cuffs and free themselves. Onlookers will be able to watch through the plexi-glass top.

All contestants must be currently enrolled CSU-Pueblo students, and are required to sign the appropriate release forms before competing. To sign up, please call the SAA at (719) 549-2649 or e-mail your request to saa@colostate-pueblo.edu.

The fun continues from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Pueblo Holiday Inn, 4001 N. Elizabeth St., with a luau style Alumni Reception, complete with food, contests, giveaways and reminiscing. Unlimited hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine will be served for a mere $20 per person. Alumni are encouraged to wear their tropical garb.
