2004 SUMMER ACADEMY FOR FUTURE TEACHERS

There is no question that the national teacher shortage has impacted schools across Colorado.  Our children deserve only the best- competent, caring, and enthusiastic teachers in their classrooms.  In an initiative to recruit extremely talented youth into the profession of teaching, the Southern Colorado Teacher Education Alliance, in partnership with Colorado State University - Pueblo, will host the Summer Academy for Future Teachers, July 12-16.  In its fifth year, the Academy attracts the best and brightest high school juniors and seniors from across Colorado to come to the CSU-Pueblo campus in order to learn more about teaching and develop their  potential as outstanding educators.

Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to interact with the 2004 Colorado Teacher of the Year, Henry McIntosh, as well as other award-winning educators from around the state. They will also design a lesson and teach in a high needs local summer school program, develop collaborative leadership skills, create an educational project utilizing state of the art technology, and receive career and college advising.
