Colorado State University–Pueblo appoints Moreschini to PLP Director position
PUEBLO – The new director of Colorado State University – Pueblo’s President’s Leadership Program is a familiar face. Pueblo native Shelly Moreschini returned to her alma mater on July 1 as Director of the President’s Leadership Program (PLP).
As director, Moreschini is responsible for coordinating recruitment, programming, marketing, and fundraising for PLP. The position will work closely with the PLP academic director to maintain high educational quality, as well as work with the Community Advisory Board to insure clear program goals.
The PLP program is a member of the Colorado Leadership Alliance, a consortium of comprehensive leadership education programs at undergraduate institutions across Colorado. Through shared resources and collaborative efforts, CLA’s focus is to develop the next generation of Colorado's leaders. PLP develops and trains emerging leaders at CSU-Pueblo through a four – year academic leadership program focused on academic and experiential learning.
“This position offers me an opportunity to use my skills and experience to teach, coach, assist and empower others to reach their goals and to become happy and productive individuals both in leadership roles and in service to others,” Moreschini said. “CSU-Pueblo continues to impress me with the quality of education and programming it strives to provide, and I’m proud to be given the chance to become part of that learning environment.”
Since 1998, Moreschini has served as Vice President of Development for the YMCA. She also has held management and fundraising positions with a variety of local non-profit organizations, including the Parkview Foundation and the El Pueblo Boys and GirlsRanch. In addition to her duties at the YMCA, she teaches a course during each 8-week term at DeVry University and the Keller Graduate School of Management in Colorado Springs. Moreschini has been honored for her efforts by numerous community organizations, including the Sunshine Award for Outstanding Work for the Benefit of the Community, the Girl Scout Volunteer of the Year Award, and the Junior League of Pueblo Sustainer Volunteer of the Year Award. She is a 1985 graduate of Leadership Pueblo.
CSU-Pueblo Provost Barbara Montgomery cited Moreschini’s extensive and successful
experience in programming and fundraising for a number of area non-profit organizations as key to her appointment.
“I am pleased that Ms. Moreschini has accepted this position at the University, and I am certain that she will prove to be an outstanding and creative leader of our President’s Leadership Program,” Montgomery said.
A native of Pueblo, Moreschini graduated South High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University in 1982. She also received a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management from Regis University in 2002.
PLP Scholars are given opportunities to obtain leadership experience through mentoring, internships, etiquette training, and presentations by leaders in various fields from government and education to the service sectors. Eligible candidates are graduating high school seniors who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and who display leadership potential, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to something outside one’s self.
