Week three at Colorado Music Fest at XI provides jazz and classical combo

PUEBLO – Week three of Colorado Music Fest XI at Colorado State University-Pueblo will span the musical spectrum from jazz to the classical sounds of the Veronika String Quartet. Music Fest XI is a five-week series of musical camps and concerts sponsored by CSU-Pueblo.

A free performance by nearly 60 faculty and students participating in this week’s Piano and String Camps will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18 in CSU-Pueblo’s Hoag Hall. The grand finale for Music Fest XI String Camp will feature the international musicians and recording artists the Veronika String Quartet, along with former member and cellist Roza Borisova, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, also in Hoag Hall. The Veronika String Quartet has performed in France, Germany, Holland, Spain, England, Switzerland, Israel, and has toured extensively in Russia and in the United States. The Russian musicians earned top prizes in competitions in Russia, Australia and the United States throughout the 1990s. The quartet has recorded with the Warner Brothers, Narada, and Northwords Press labels.

The work of Grammy nominee and former Colorado Music Fest faculty member Frank Mantooth will be performed by some of the best jazz musicians along the Front Range when the Jazz All-Stars present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 21 at the Pueblo Convention Center. The concert pays tribute to this multiple Grammy Award nominee, who passed away unexpectedly last winter.

The concert will feature trombonist Mike Brumbaugh from San Antonio, Al Eberhardt on trumpet, Ray DeWitt and Brad Eastin on woodwinds, John Turner on piano, Aaron Turner on drums, and bassist Marc Niehof, who recently returned from European and China Jazz tours.

Tickets for both concerts are available for $10 each through the Sangre De Cristo Arts Center by calling 295-7200. Additional information about the All-Stars or the Veronika String Quartet may be found at www.colostate-pueblo.edu/cmf or by calling 549-2126.
