CSU-Pueblo President’s Scholarship Gala to “star” Healy, Farley and music students
PUEBLO – “The Stars Come Out at Night,” the 2004 President’s Scholarship Gala at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday, May 15, will feature stellar performances by some of the University’s finest student musicians as well as recognition of two of the University’s steadfast supporters.
The Gala will begin at 6 p.m. in the newly renovated Occhiato University Center Hearthwell Lounge with cocktails, a silent auction, and the first of many performances by CSU-Pueblo music students. In keeping with the event’s motion picture theme, all of the red-carpet quality silent auction items and packages will bear appropriate movie names, including a fly fishing adventure (A River Runs Through it), a Las Vegas excursion (Leaving Las Vegas), will preparation legal services (Good Will Hunting), a Puerto Rican dinner for six (West Side Story), Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Ride (Around the World in 80 Days), Colorado Rockies Coors Suite tickets (For Love of the Game), and a $1,000 gift certificate to Enos Jewelry (Jewel of the Nile).
The dinner and program will begin at 7 p.m. with a menu also labeled with film titles, such as the four dessert stations -- Vanilla Crème Brulee (Vanilla Sky), Chocolate Mousse (Chocolat’), Fruit Ambrosia (The Grapes of Wrath), and Cream Puff filled with Ice Cream (As Good as it Gets). After dinner, CSU-Pueblo President Ron Applbaum will recognize new President’s Club members as well as present Tom Farley and Tom Healy with President’s Medallions for Distinguished Service.
Dancing to All that Jazz, a student ensemble directed by freshman music major Wayne Hoey, will follow the program. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,250 per corporate table. The entire evening’s expenses have been underwritten by donors, guaranteeing that all proceeds will directly benefit future generations of CSU-Pueblo students like the evening’s performers and members of the President’s Leadership Program. The support of CSU-Pueblo benefactor Tom Healy has been far reaching and long term. Healy has given generously of his time and resources to the University, from lobbying the legislature to establish a state college in southern Colorado in the 1960s to continued service both on the CSU-Pueblo Foundation Board of Directors and the Hasan School of Business Advisory Council. Healy’s generous $100,000 donation to the School of Business in 1999 enabled the school to obtain a matching challenge grant from the Boettcher Foundation and established the Healy Center for Business and Economic Studies. A $45,000 gift earlier this year supported the school’s efforts to gain accreditation by AACSB, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. President of Jones-Healy Real Estate, Healy was inducted into the 2001 Pueblo Hall of Fame and received the 2001 Outstanding Service to the University award from the CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association.
A senior partner in the law firm of Petersen and Fonda, Tom Farley also championed the university during its early years of development and has continued to support programming and facility improvements such as the Fountain Plaza and the Farley Conference Room in the Hasan School of Business. Active in numerous state and community organizations, Farley served as President of the State Board of Agriculture, the University’s governing board, from 1979 to 1987. He was minority leader of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1967-1975 and was a Colorado State Fair Commissioner for 13 years. In addition, Farley is a trustee of the Farley Foundation.
