CSU - Pueblo announces final Middle East lecture in series
Pueblo -- The final lecture
in a series of four on Middle East issues at Colorado State University - Pueblo
will focus on politics. Dr. Timothy McGettigan, associate professor of sociology
and anthropology, will present his lecture "Golden Rule: Power Politics in
the Global Village" from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20 in the
West Ballroom of the Occhiato University Center.
McGettigan said the goal of his lecture is to move beyond the political rhetoric
and shed light on problems that emerge when American policy-makers profess to
fight for admirable principles, yet systematically contradict those principles
in practice.
"The focus will be on the distance between the U.S.A.'s altruistic
principles and our, all too often, self-interested and short-sighted
international political practices in the Middle East - and elsewhere,"
McGettigan said. "Hopefully, this lecture will provide food for thought for
anyone who is puzzled about current U.S. activities in the Middle East."
The series was developed in part by the College of Humanities and Social
Sciences (CHASS) in an effort to increase academic discussions across
disciplines and boost interaction between faculty and students. The series is
co-sponsored by the Southern Colorado Teacher Education Alliance (SCTEA).
