CSU - Pueblo Student Government Election Results Announced

Pueblo -- The results from the 2004 Associated Students' Government elections at Colorado State University-Pueblo held April 7 and 8 were announced last week.

ASG is a student run government that promotes student affairs on campus and in the state, through student body member representatives. ASG members work with many different departments on the campus to accomplish student life events and community projects. Recent projects include student discount cards, student book buy back program, and the Thunder Wolf statue installation.

Current student body president Tyson Valenzuela, a junior biology major from Kailua Kona, Hawaii, was re-elected with a new Vice President, LaTonya Reaves, a sophomore sociology major from Colorado Springs.

Christina Collester, sociology freshman, from Denver; Shauna Dunn, English freshman, from Pueblo West, and Samantha Gilpin, sociology sophomore from Colorado Springs, filled three of the five Senate seats for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Nicholas Goodsell, a sophomore pre-business major from Pueblo West, and Leroy Romero, a junior pre-business major from Gunnison, filled the two Senate seats for the Hasan School of Business.

Eric Hill, a junior political Science major from St. Louis, Mo. was elected for one of two At-Large Senate seats.

The student government offered several incentives to increase voter turnout. Student clubs and organizations worked hard to advertise the elections and were rewarded for their efforts. The Campus Crusade for Christ won the first place prize of $50 for the largest voter turnout. Association of Informational Technology Professionals took second place and the CSU-Pueblo Lacrosse team won third for $25 each.

The Belmont Residence Hall also offered incentives for voter participation, offering a pizza party prize for the floor with the highest voter turnout. With 94 percent of its residents voting, A2 won the prize, only two voters shy of making a 100 percent turnout.
