CSU - Pueblo Instructor Coaches Athlete
                              to International Triathlon Championship

Pueblo -- Dr. George Dallam, an Exercise Science, Health Promotion and Recreation professor at Colorado State University - Pueblo, recently coached Hunter Kemper, an elite triathlete, who is a resident at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, to the International Triathlon Union World Cup Championship, held last week in Madrid, Spain.

For Kemper and Dallam, who developed the national team's program back in 1996 when he served as head coach, the win snapped an eight-year dry spell for the American men, who last won the World Cup in 1994. Kemper won the race, which consisted of a 1.5 kilometer swim, a 40K bike ride, and a 10K run, in 1:50.02.

The training methodology used to prepare Kemper has been the focus of two recent research projects led by Senior USOC Sport Physiologist Dr. Randy Wilber. As a member of the project research team, Dallam has been able to involve numerous current and former CSU-Pueblo students as observers, members of the research team, and volunteer interns at the OTC Sport Science Lab.

"The teaching, research and coaching all blend synergistically to create both a unique experience for our CSU-Pueblo students and to provide a valuable support to USA Triathlon's quest to bring the United States men's elite team to the pre-eminent status in the sport of triathlon currently enjoyed by our women," said Dallam.

Race results may be found on the web at: http://www.triathlete.com/art.asp?3=305.
