                            Presidential speechwriter and patriotic orator 
                                 to present leadership series in Springs

Pueblo -- Known as "the most outstanding orator on patriotic themes," a former speechwriter for five U.S. Presidents will present a four-part series on leadership at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs next month.

James Humes, Presidential speech writer, Pulitzer Prize nominee, lawyer, legislator, author, diplomat, and scholar will present "The Language of Leadership," a four-week series for those in a leadership role or for those who aspire to move up the corporate ladder. The sessions will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Broadmoor Hotel on consecutive Tuesdays, Oct. 14, Oct. 21,
Oct. 28, and Nov. 4.

Currently, Humes serves as the Ryals Professor in the Hasan School of Business at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

One of America's most popular speakers, Humes has addressed audiences in 50 states and 23 countries on subjects ranging from Winston Churchill, Ben Franklin, the White House, and Shakespeare. The Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge awarded the George Washington Medal as America's "most outstanding orator on patriotic themes."

As a Presidential speechwriter, he is the only individual who has written for Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Bush. He served as a White House Assistant for Presidents Nixon and Ford and was editorial advisor in the writing of former President Ford's memoirs, A Time to Heal.

An authority on Churchill, Humes has written numerous books and wrote and portrayed Churchill in the PBS production, "Blood, Sweat, and Tears." His books include a biography of Churchill that was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and "My Fellow Americans," a book on Presidential addresses that have shaped history.

As a lawyer, he practiced in Williamsport and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as President of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the oldest such association in the country.

As a diplomat, he served as Director of the Office of Policy and Plans in the U.S. department of State. He has lectured for the State department on the U.S. Presidency to universities in Asia and Latin America. He served for three years as a Pennsylvania State Representative.

The cost for the series is $250. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is requested. Reading materials may be purchased for $14 on the first night of class. To register, call the CSU-Pueblo Continuing Education Office at 719-549-2162. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday,
Oct. 10.
