Pueblo -- A Pueblo native and former
sports information director will return to raise funds for the University of
Southern Colorado (USC) and its athletics department. Todd Kelly, assistant
commissioner of media relations and championships for the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference (RMAC), will begin duties as Athletic Development and Major
Gifts Officer at USC beginning July 1. He replaces Marcie Reynolds, who resigned
in May.
Kelly will identify, cultivate, and solicit contributions for athletics from
alumni, friends, corporations, organizations, and foundations. He also is
responsible for organizing athletic development and marketing/promotion
initiatives, including season ticket sales, special events, and marketing and
administering Corporate Giving and Thunderwolf Scholarship giving programs for
athletics, including annual solicitations, stewardship activities, and
recognition events.
As a member of the university's advancement team, he also will organize and
staff alumni gatherings connected to USC athletic events and provide staff
support for other athletic development events, including two annual golf outings
and a Walk for Women's Athletics in support of USC.
Kelly is no stranger to USC, where he served 11 years as the sports information
director/assistant athletic director. After becoming USC's sports information
director in 1991, Kelly won 14 citations for excellence in publications awards
from CoSIDA, including seven "Best in the Nation" and five
"Second in the Nation" citations. During the 1999-2000 season, Kelly
was presented the Southern Colorado Press Club Media Excellence Award.
Since 2001, he has served as Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations and
Championships for the RMAC , where he was responsible for the publicity of the
RMAC's 18 sponsored sports including publications, media releases, statistics,
records, and conference awards. In addition, he coordinated conference
championship events and supervised the conference's Internet operations and
weekly radio show.
A 1990 USC Mass Communications graduate, Kelly is a member of the College Sports
Information Director's of America Association; the Southern Colorado Press Club;
the Boy's and Girl's Club of Southern Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain Athletic
Relations Association.
