SCTEA Summer Institute scheduled
at Colorado State University - Pueblo

Pueblo will host the Summer Institute of the Southern Colorado Teacher Education
Alliance August 6 and 7. The two-day conference is titled "Critical
Thinking and Writing: Pathways to Create Tomorrow's Reflective
Self-Learners."
Keynote speakers at the event will include Peter Facione, provost of Loyola
University, Chicago; William Callahan, associate dean of the College of
Education at the University of Iowa; Stevi Quate, a consultant and professor at
the University of Colorado at Denver; and Debbie Silver, author and conference
speaker.
Facione will speak at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday (August 6) in the Life Sciences
Auditorium. He and his wife Noreen will present: "Teaching For and About
Critical Thinking."
At 1:15 p.m., Callahan will present "Building for Technology Through its
Integration with Critical Thinking and Writing" also in the Life Sciences
Auditorium.
Quate will speak at 8:15 a.m. Thursday (August 7) in the Life Sciences
Auditorium. She will present: "Writing: Not Such a Lonely Affair."
At 1:45 p.m., Silver will present "Be a Teacher - Be a Hero!" in the
Occhiato University Center Ballroom.
Breakout session topics related to critical thinking and writing will include
instructional strategies/learning environment, assessment, special needs
students, developmental stages and specific content areas.
General conference fee is $80 and includes the luncheon for each day. Check our
