Device to assist quadriplegic artists designed by USC students
Pueblo -- A device designed by
mechanical engineering technology students at the University of Southern
Colorado will allow a quadriplegic artist to control the position of a painting
in progress.
Operated by puffs of air from the artist's mouth, the easel uses a motor to move
a painting up and down so that the artist can access each area of the canvass.
Previously, a quadriplegic artist had to have the canvass moved by hand.
The automatic easel will be demonstrated today (April 7) at 1:30 p.m. in 220
Technology and will be presented to a representative from Craig Hospital in
Englewood, Colo., which specializes in rehabilitation and research for patients
with spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.
