Pueblo -- It's no small wonder that the
topic of this week's Physics Seminar at the University of Southern Colorado will
be Nanotechnology. Dr. Nebojsa (Neb) Jaksic, assistant professor of engineering,
will discuss "Nanotechnology: Challenges and Promises" from 12 until
12:50 p.m. on March 6 in 103 Physics/Math.
Jaksic's presentation will attempt to paint in broad terms the current
developments, charms and challenges of nanotechnology. He will begin with a
short history of nanoworld exploration including the legendary Feynman's talk
"There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom" (published in 1960), powerful
technology-enabling scanning probe microscopes in the 80's through Schon's great
scientific fraud that shook AT&T Bell Labs.
Then, an overview of latest developments with expected future directions will be
presented. Finally, Jaksic will discuss USC's nanotechnology research efforts.
Participants are invited to bring a sack lunch. The lectures are free and open
to the public.
