CSU-PUEBLO NAME CHANGE OFFICIAL With
the signature of Gov. Bill Owens the Colorado State University - Pueblo name
change became official on Wed., May 29, at the University of Southern
Colorado. "It's great to be part of the rebirth and revitalization of an important community and institution," Owens said. The bill-signing ceremony drew more than 200 people, a larger crowd than expected. Gov. Owens and the USC Orientation Team cut a birthday cake honoring the new name. Balloons in the school colors of red, white, and blue were released representing the 69 years of USC's history. Several members of the State Legislature were on hand to support the measure. "We in Pueblo are committed to this new relationship and we will be successful," said Rep. Joyce Lawrence. Rep. Lawrence was the first to introduce the name change bill nearly two years ago. Gov. Owens used several commemorative pens to sign and gave them away to key backers of the bill. The name change will go into effect on July 1, 2003. |
