USC to sponsor Colorado DECA District #9 competition

Pueblo
-- The University of Southern Colorado will be host to more than 600 students from southeastern Colorado at the Annual DECA District #9 Competition this week. The event will be held from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, (Dec. 5) in the Occhiato University Center.

Students from East, Pueblo County, Pueblo West, South, Centennial, Central and Lamar high schools will compete in 14 categories of business and marketing. The competition consists of a combined score of the student's role-playing ability and 100-point written test.

Students who place in the district competition have the chance to compete at the state competition in February at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. The state competition also gives students a chance to earn scholarships, cash prizes, and the chance to compete in the 2003 DECA Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

The University of Southern Colorado is a regional, comprehensive university emphasizing professional, career-oriented, and applied programs. Displaying excellence in teaching, celebrating diversity, and engaging in service and outreach, USC is distinguished by access, opportunity, and the overall quality of services provided to its students.
