Rampart high school wins Math Day competition at USC
Pueblo -- Rampart High School students captured first place at the 26th
annual Math Bowl at the University of Southern Colorado Thursday.
Students from high schools throughout Colorado had the opportunity to
participate in Math Day 2002 activities sponsored by the USC Math Department.
Students solved equations in the traditional Math Bowl Tournament and individual
Swanson Competition.
Rampart students Michael Mathews, Dustin McIntosh, and Dipak Chaudhari captured
top honors under the direction of sponsor Manuel Mestas. Swink High School
students Chad Zimmerman, Ashley Williams, and Matt Klein took second place with
sponsor Judy Jenkins. Teams from Ellicott High School and Wasson High School
were semifinalists in the competition, with consolation honors going to
Centennial High School.
Of the 219 students who took the Swanson Competition exam, first place went to
Bryce Herdt from Mitchell High School. Sean Bradley of Lewis-Palmer High School
took second place. In third place was Arron Wolk from Liberty High School.
Christopher Liebmann from Wasson High School placed fourth, Joseph Koehler of
Lewis-Palmer School placed fifth and Jesse Snyder of Pueblo East placed sixth.
